Life is a Team Sport

Rick Hendrick is best known for his NASCAR championships and Sprint Cup Series victories as the owner of Hendrick Motorsports. In 1996, his winning ways broadened beyond the Winner’s Circle when he became a champion for people facing life-threatening diseases that can be treated with a bone marrow transplant. That was the year the popular NASCAR team owner became a leukemia survivor.

After his 1996 leukemia diagnosis, Hendrick quickly realized the urgent need for more marrow donors to help the thousands of patients searching for a match. He decided to use his diagnosis to make a difference in the lives of others.

Today, the Hendrick Marrow Program of the Be The Match FoundationSM helps secure private resources to support the work of the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) and its Be The Match RegistrySM.

Since 1997, the Hendrick Marrow Program has raised more than $7 million to recruit new members to the marrow donor registry and help patients pay for transplant-related costs. These funds have:

  •  Added more than 85,000 members to the Be The Match Registry

  • Helped more than 3,000 patients with transplant-related costs such as lodging and post-transplant prescriptions
